PT. Perkebunan Nusantara III (Persero) abbreviated PTPN III (Persero), is one of 14 State Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Plantation which is engaged in the plantation, processing and marketing of plantation. Company's business activities include the cultivation and processing of oil palm and rubber plants. Company's main products are Palm Oil (CPO) and palm kernel (Kernel) and downstream rubber products.

Company history begins with the takeover of companies owned by the Dutch plantation by the Government of Indonesia in 1958, known as the process of nationalization of foreign oil companies into the State Oil Company (PPN).

In 1968, PPN was restructured into several units of State Plantation Company (PNP) is hereinafter in 1974 the form of legal entity was changed to PT Perkebunan (Persero).

In order to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the business activity of state-owned enterprises, restructure state-owned plantation subsector Government to conduct business combination is based on the exploitation and streamlining the organizational structure. Beginning with the incorporation of management measures in 1994, 3 (three) state-owned plantation consisting of:
  • PT Perkebunan III (Persero)
  • PT Perkebunan IV (Persero)
  • PT Perkebunan V (Persero)
The three state-owned plantation was incorporated into the management of its management of PT. Perkebunan Nusantara III (Persero).

Furthermore, through Government Regulation no. 8 of 1996 dated 14 February 1996, the third company was merged and named PT. Perkebunan Nusantara III (Persero) based in Medan, North Sumatra.

PT. Perkebunan Nusantara III (Persero) was founded by Aaron Notary Kamil, SH. 36 dated March 11, 1996 and was ratified by the Minister of Justice of the Republic of Indonesia Decree No. C2-8331.HT.01.01.TH.96 dated August 8, 1996 which was published in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Indonesia No.. 81 of 1996 Supplement to the State. 8674 of 1996.

Palm Oil - Palm Oil and Palm Core
PT. Perkebunan Nusantara III (Persero) makes oil and palm kernel as the main commodity contributing to the revenue of the company.

Quality products and palm kernel oil which produced the Company are well known in local and international markets with timely supply to the buyer.

Rubber - Latex, Crumb Rubber and Ribbed Smoke Sheet
Around the world, Sumatra is known as a producer of high-grade rubber, more than 54.000 hectares of PT. Perkebunan Nusantara III (Persero) attempted to produce the best quality rubber in the world.

Quality products RSS-1, SIR-10, SIR-20 and Concentrated Latex able to penetrate the international market, in several of the largest tire manufacturer like Bridgestone, Good Year, Firestone, Han Kook and others.

Total sales in 2009 reached a value of Rp. 4.349 billion, while total sales in 2010 amounting to Rp. 5.520 Billion. Thus, in 2009 the sales value increased by 26.93%. Increase in sales value in 2010 caused partly by an increase in sales volume as much as 36,256 tons of palm oil or 5.82% and an increase in average selling prices due to increased demand and yields of soybean and palm oil are slowing due to weather disturbances.

Value of Export Sales
When viewed from the value of export sales, increased by 41.44% from Rp. 1122 billion in 2009 to Rp. 1.587 billion in 2010. This is because the market price of palm oil and rubber are influenced by Colombia's palm oil production declining due to fungal attack and the uncertainty of weather white (La-Nina) in South Africa, and the increased demand for vegetable oil by China and India.

Domestic Sales Value
The value of domestic sales increased by 21.88% from Rp. 3.227 billion in 2009 to Rp. 3.933 billion in 2010. This is due to increased selling prices and the implementation of higher export taxes so that market participants are more likely to sell to the domestic market.

Corporate Social Responsibility
As a form of corporate social responsibility (corporate social responsibility) which is also one form of implementation of the principles of Good Corporate Governance (GCG), PT. Perkebunan Nusantara III also develop programs to improve social welfare in the environment surrounding gardens. The program includes:

Partnership Program and Community Development
Partnership and Environment Development Program aims to empower and develop the potential economic, social and environmental conditions surrounding the use of the Partnership and Community Development.

Total funds disbursed to the partnership during the year 2010 was Rp. 17,847,500,000 and Rp. 16,558,260,320 for the building environment. Funds have been channeled to community development environment are as follows:
  • Assistance or education and training (10.83%)
  • Religious facilities (44.67%)
  • Health facilities (0.78%)
  • Public utilities (42.79%) and 0.93% of natural disasters.
Other Social Programs
In addition to the above program, the company is also developing other social programs in the form of health care to employees and the communities surrounding the hospital company, polibun and referral hospitals outside the company to employees that require special handling and the development of houses of worship in the Garden / Unit.

Environmental Policy
In addition to the above social responsibility programs, as a State Owned Enterprises (BUMN) are based on a commodity crop plantations of oil palm, rubber, downstream industries and support facilities for hospitals, the Company took an environmental policy in which environmental protection is a part of every step of the company's activities . The environmental policy covers the use of natural resources effectively and efficiently, environmental pollution prevention, waste treatment plants and waste in an optimal clinical hospitals, factories and waste utilization activities in an optimal plant, maintenance, aesthetics, compliance with laws and regulations and applicable environmental requirements. Company environmental policy initiative is supported by the application of ISO 14001 Environmental Management System.

The environmental policy includes provisions regarding the control of solid waste, management of B3 waste, use of fertilizers and chemicals plants, management and use of fuels and lubricants, the use of treatment chemicals, waste water management and control, management and use of water, management of goods / materials products, management of clinical waste.

The Company also requires the partners to the goods and materials supplied are the goods and environmentally friendly materials and procurement of goods and services in accordance with the procedures and work instructions. Auditing environmental management systems (EMS) for the year 2008 has also been implemented throughout the PTPN III and has been followed up.

Occupational Health and Safety (K3)
Implementation of safety procedures and health care have been implemented well and every occurrence of occupational accidents made the report. In every job that has the potential to cause significant harm, illness and accidents have posted signs and warning signs. And workers who perform the activity of potentially harmful, disease and accidents have been using personal protective equipment according to the procedure. Each period has been carried out testing and inspection hyperkes and safety.

The rise of negative issues against palm oil as a cause of environmental degradation and biodiversity, the causes of land degradation and deforestation, the marginalization of local populations, rare wildlife and cause reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, and so forth.

To answer these issues, international palm stakeholders have agreed to form a nonprofit association that is the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO). This organization aims to implement global standards for sustainable palm oil.

PT. Perkebunan Nusantara III as one of the State Owned Enterprises (BUMN) that most of its business is engaged in the management of oil palm is very concerned about the Management of Sustainable Palm.
